Map method 1: COPY FROM MAP PROGRAM
Where did I get this map?
I copied this from Microsoft Streets & Trips CD (around $39 at stores or online) Or copy from free mapping websites (see above link).
How to insert into MS Word?
In Microsoft Streets & Trips program: select square button > stretch square over your selected area > edit > copy
NEXT ... in your Microsoft Word document edit > paste
To stretch: grab corner of map/picture and stretch Border: format > borders and shading Adjust brightness or contrast: right-click picture > format picture or object > picture tab
NEXT ... Add Arrow Icons Open FastMap Icons document (a MS Word document): copy icon > paste anywhere on map page move floating icon in place on top of map

Map method 2: DOWNLOAD PICTURE FILE (.JPEG)
Where did I get this map?
I found it free on a local city-government website! I just downloaded the JPEG picture file and cropped it smaller. (Note .JPEG or .GIF are just two examples of many good picture file formats)
How do I insert into MS Word?
Download image file from web: if the image is offered free you can: right-click on picture > Save Image As (put picture file on your computer in a place that you can find)
NEXT ... in your Microsoft Word document insert > picture > from file
To stretch: grab corner of map/picture and stretch Border: format > borders and shading Adjust brightness or contrast: right-click picture > format picture or object > picture tab

Map method 3: Photo or Scan of Paper Map
Where did I get this map?
I got this from my local city/county-government office! May be available on CD at gov't office or website.
The above plat/zoning map was a paper copy, which I just highlighted with a green marker & photographed with my digital camera! You could also scan the copy with a flatbed scanner.
How do I insert into MS Word?
Download image file from CAMERA or FLATBED SCANNER: (put picture file on your computer in a place that you can find)
You can further modify the picture in Microsoft Photo Editor (may be included free with MS Windows), other use other picture programs such as Adobe Photoshop, or programs that may be included with your camera or scanner software.

ALT+PRINTSCREEN (captures copy of screen to invisible Clipboard) hold down the ALT key and hit the Print Screen key (top right of keyboard)

Map method 5: Screen to .JPEG
When you need a picture on your Screen or in MS Word
turned into a separate picture image file!
(for inserting into a webpage, or other programs)
Screen to .JPEG INSTRUCTIONS
(Note .JPEG or .GIF are just two examples of many good picture file formats)
First, do previous methods to get picture into MS Word so you can modify and finish it!
(These next instructions will describe how to ... take a picture of the picture you finished in Word (ALT+PRINTSCREEN) then crop this screen image and save it as a JPEG)
ALT+PRINTSCREEN (captures copy of screen to invisible Clipboard) hold down the ALT key and hit the Print Screen key (top right of keyboard)
Open Microsoft Photo Editor (should be on your computer - free with Windows) (these instructions may help if you are doing this in a different program)
Microsoft Photo Editor may open automatically when you double-click on a photo image file on your computer or ... Start > Programs > Microsoft Office Tools > Microsoft Photo Editor (drag and drop this icon onto your desktop to make it easier to find next time)
edit > Paste as New Image
crop or adjust picture as needed select rectangle button, stretch rectangle around area you want Image > Crop
File > Save As (JPEG or other format) (put picture file on your computer in a place that you can find)
Now you have a picture image file to work with!
Now insert image into MS Word, a webpage, or other programs.
You can further modify the picture in Microsoft Photo Editor, other picture programs such as Adobe Photoshop, or programs that may be included with your camera or scanner software.
